How to Speed Up Your PC or Laptop in 10 Minutes
Simple, proven steps to make your slow computer fast again — no technical expertise required. Works on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
A slow computer doesn't always mean you need a new one. These 10 steps will noticeably speed up your PC or laptop, and most of them take under a minute each.
Step 1: Disable Startup Programs
Many apps launch when your computer boots up, slowing everything down. To fix this:
1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
2. Click the Startup tab (or Startup Apps on Windows 11)
3. Right-click and Disable anything you don't need at startup
Common culprits: Spotify, Discord, Steam, Skype, OneDrive, Adobe Creative Cloud. You can always open these manually when you need them.
Step 2: Uninstall Bloatware
Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps. Sort by size and uninstall programs you never use. Pre-installed manufacturer software (HP, Dell, Lenovo utilities) is often unnecessary and resource-heavy.
Step 3: Clear Temporary Files
1. Press Windows + R, type `%temp%`, hit Enter
2. Select all files (Ctrl + A) and delete them
3. Empty the Recycle Bin
Alternatively, use the built-in Disk Cleanup tool: search "Disk Cleanup" in the Start menu.
Step 4: Adjust Visual Effects
Windows animations look nice but consume resources:
1. Search "Adjust the appearance and performance of Windows"
2. Select "Adjust for best performance" or manually uncheck effects you don't need
